Testimonials

"The PHDSC Web site provides an excellent resource to those of us who are struggling to develop, adopt, implement, understand, and teach public health data standards. The Public Health Data Standards Tutorial will prove invaluable to students and practitioners alike. Standards in public health are often poorly understood, and it remains difficult to find material that succinctly and understandably explains the essential basics. The PHDSC Tutorial performs this role in an exemplary fashion."

"One of the primary goals of the PHDSC is to help educate public health practitioners and health service researchers on the topic and value of public health data standards. Just by participation as a Consortium member (including volunteer activity on the work groups), I believe I have gone from knowing little about public health data standards, to having a working knowledge of the major issues and becoming acutely aware of the contribution standardization has already made to practitioner and researcher efficacy. This has been useful to the organization I have represented to-date, Public Health Foundation, but also personally, as I work at navigating health data issues each week. Membership has also its reward in friendly and spirited experiences sharing with others that have adventured the 'health data quagmire.' All the members have extended a nurturing hand to stakeholders fresh to the field, but eager to learn. The Web-based Resource Center, a major product and service of the PHDSC, developed primarily through the thoughtful efforts of the women and men on the Education Work Group (early research and design stages) and then the Web-based Resource Center Work Group (research, design, and development stages), will serve as the open doorway to essential public health data standardization orientation and steps. These steps should have a tremendous impact on reducing human suffering and taming the 'inefficiency beast,' as well as helping to assure that the 'data jugglers' among us have more 'face-time' with their families and friends. We are hoping you will walk with us!"

Finally the country has a resource to help explain the applications and value of public health data! The PHDSC is one of the few groups encouraging public and private health care organizations to collaborate toward community-wide informatics!

PHDSC has been invaluable to OSHPD in California in the area of standards development. PHDSC has provided up to date information and guidance and provides a forum for states to have a voice in adding data elements to a national standard.
